Creator Wizard Seth Dev Log #3 - A More Organized Temple

Doing some simple documentation on creating a new level to play around in. Presented here are some basic elements. A ramp, some arches, a cylinder, some pillars, and a platform. Believe it or not we can really do a lot with these simple elements. Don't forget that I am a magical wizard from the fifth dimension and I can actually bend and twist and curve these things to fit my needs.   Here we are already starting to make some progress. We can see some symmetry forming, a second platform, and an archway that is curved giving us the beginnings of an entrance to some sort of structure.  Now we can see a more developed structure on the left, compared to the less developed on the right. Notice that the structure on the left has a foundation of concrete that makes it separate from the floor material.   Now we have a ramp connecting the lower platform to the upper and some more details on the curved archway. There is a bridge connecting the two sides of the platforms comple...

Creator Wizard Seth Dev Log #2 - Multiplying Structural Complexity

This blog entry marks the letting go of a level I have been working on. It does show a lot of potential, and there are a lot of things I like about it. However, there are a lot of things that need to be moved around, and lot of areas that I did not develop correctly. Sometimes its easier to start back over from scratch and sometimes its better to repair what you're working on. In this case I believe it's better to let go of of it and create something new.   I really enjoy the fact that there are 3 distinct areas. The large open courtyard surrounded by walls, and the two more closed areas separated by a divider. They are all interconnected and it is interesting to move around. The problem with this map is that it is very vertical and I am using these huge ramps that are very steep to go up and down. This doesn't feel right and the vertical movement needs to be achieved in a smoother more natural way. I really like the architectural feel of things and the fact that the courty...

www.creatorwizardseth.com to learn more about my projects and my video games. This is the first entry in the game development blog for creator wizard seth's video games. Here we have a temple environment. I have done alot of creating environments for video games in the past couple months. Most of my previous attempts ended up looking extremely disorganized and very incoherent. Learning to place things in a visually appealing way which is also very good for gameplay is a tough puzzle.   And this concludes this viewing portion of your visual pleasures. Next, we will take a step back and appreciate some of the learning steps that were taken to develop this ability to create these environments. Here is an earlier version where I attempted to utilize a landscape to make things more familiar and easier to build upon. However I realized that I was under pressure to finish the project and placing rocks and developing my ability to paint the texture onto a terrain in an appealing wa...
